Reflection
It is no secret that we faced a lot of challenges this year. First, we have this pandemic that greatly affected our mobility. Then, almost every week, another typhoon hits our country this past month which massively affected our means of communication. It has been a test of how much effort we can give to accomplish our tasks. When I was assigned to map a natural heritage from Tayabas City, the first thing I thought of was Mount Banahaw. It is a complex volcano that is usually associated with the Province of Laguna and the Municipality of Lucban, Quezon. But, little do most people know that parts of Mount Banahaw are also linked with the City of Tayabas. That’s why Tayabas has some of the most fascinating hot springs in the Province of Quezon is all because of Mount Banahaw. Tayabas is mostly famous for its stone bridges, heritage houses, and other historical landmarks which makes it one of the most culturally rich municipalities in all of Quezon. This is all the more reason we should identify the different heritages present in our locality as well as protecting and preserving them; for future generations to recognize and appreciate them as we do today. If I were to borrow the words of Gaylord Nelson “The ultimate test of man’s conscience may be his willingness to sacrifice something today for future generations whose words of thanks will not be heard.”
